It s hard to say whether true self-awareness will ever be possible for machines, but many scientists predict this is not only possible, but just around the corner. Maybe we need to start thinking about the social ramifications involved in a world where we are no longer the only intelligent beings on the planet. After all, if our new machine friends feel mistreated, we don t want it to result in a skynet-like scenario. Are we already off to a bad start? Are we developing a culture of inequality toward AI?
